We are launching a series of country highlights to showcase the progress and impact of initiatives across the globe. Each spotlight demonstrates how GIIF partners with local insurers, governments, and communities to expand access to inclusive insurance, strengthen financial resilience, and empower vulnerable populations to better manage risks and thrive in the face of climate and economic challenges. These highlights also provide a valuable opportunity to reflect on lessons learned and identify areas to improve our work and maximize impact.
The Global Inclusive Insurance Facility (GIIF) supports the development of inclusive insurance markets across Africa and Asia. Its work focuses on helping smallholder farmers and small businesses better manage risks, particularly those linked to climate variability and agricultural production.
Across multiple countries, GIIF works with insurers, governments, financial institutions, and technology providers to expand access to affordable and relevant insurance solutions. The program focuses on addressing market barriers, strengthening institutional capacity, developing tailored products, and improving distribution channels to reach underserved populations.
Through these efforts, GIIF contributes to stronger financial resilience, increased access to finance, and more stable agricultural systems. By enabling farmers and small businesses to better cope with shocks such as droughts, floods, and other climate-related events, inclusive insurance plays a critical role in protecting livelihoods and supporting long-term economic development.
Each country highlight offers a snapshot of how these efforts are being implemented in different contexts, reflecting both shared challenges and locally tailored solutions. From scaling national agricultural insurance programs to building new markets and fostering public-private partnerships, these experiences provide valuable insights into what works and where further progress is needed.
As GIIF continues to evolve, the program is expanding beyond traditional index insurance toward a more comprehensive approach to inclusive insurance, one that supports sustainable market development while delivering meaningful protection to those who need it most.
