Building Capacity on Area Yield Index Insurance in Ethiopia
IFC held a workshop in Addis Ababa on Agricultural and Area Yield Index Insurance (AYII), bringing together insurers, government agencies, and partners to strengthen Ethiopia’s agricultural insurance ecosystem. Co-organized with Lersha and KM Dastur, the training advanced technical capacity and collaboration to scale data-driven insurance solutions that enhance farmers’ resilience and food security.

The Global Inclusive Insurance Facility (GIIF), formerly known as the Global Index Insurance Facility is a dedicated World Bank Group's program that facilitates access to finance for smallholder farmers, micro-entrepreneurs, and microfinance institutions through the provisions of catastrophic risk transfer solutions and index-based insurance in developing countries. Funded by the European Union, the governments of Germany, Japan, and the Netherlands, GIIF has facilitated approximately 15 million contracts, covering close to 75 million people, primarily in Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia, and Latin America and the Caribbean.
